The Baffler’s long-awaited sports-themed issue, “Player Haters,” has gone live. My contribution to the publication, “The Fame Game,” takes a look at various halls of fame, most notably the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum, a recent trip to which I recount in the article, as well as other reliquaries, such as the football HOF and the long-forgotten Hall of Fame for Great Americans. “The Fame Game” considers the dual function of these institutions—honor roll and museum—what purpose they continue to serve in American life, and the politics that dictate who gets selected and who omitted from the list of immortals honored therein. You can read the piece here. Enjoy!
